Full Description: The car was built on December 22, 1956. It left the factory on Decemer 27th, and was shipped to Dortmund, Germany. It was ordered with:
M128 Whitewall tires
M951 Exterior rear view mirror
Blue / Blue Grey interior
Sometime between January of 56 and 1980, it mades it's way over here. My father had a VW parts store, as well as a seperate restoration shop at the time. The car came in with chrome wheels and US spec headlights installed to get a small crease repaired in the driver's side rear 1/4 panel. The guy didn't have enough money to fix the car, so he sold it to my father for $800. Having the connections at the time, he then collected many NOS parts for the car, fixed the 1/4 panel, and later lost interest and began to want a 55 Chevy. I had wanted this car all through growing up, but knew that it was "off limits", as it was "his" car. Finally, I gave him $850 for the car in 2008, as a deposit, and told him to figure out the rest. Long story short....We ended up calling it even with the trade of a 1600cc Type 3 motor.
There is no rust on this car and with the exception of the small crease in the 1/4 panel, it hasn't been hit. Body, pan and engine numbers match (confirmed by the birth certificate from Wolfsburg) and still has some remains of the original door panels. My plans are to restore this car pan off to original specs, but with some cal-look attitude. It will recieve 4 wheel disc brakes, Porsche alloys, lowered front end and a VERY large 2 liter engine. I will not cut or drill anything on the entire car (unless I can actually find a Golde sunroof)! And yes, I'm going to restore the original engine, transmission, suspension and brakes, then cover them and store them in the corner so that I can put this back together as an original numbers matching car at a later date. I will NEVER sell this car, as it's been in the family since before I was born, and I missed my chance to have my grandfather's black 57 Oval window.
